Hyolyn (효린) – ChecK

Hyolyn’s “ChecK” is almost entirely in English—but its one Korean line delivers the message perfectly:

멀리 찾지 마 니 앞엔

meolli chatji ma ni apen

멀리 means “far away.”

찾다 means “to look for” or “search for.”

And -지 마 means “don’t.”

So:

멀리 찾지 마
= Don’t look too far.

Then comes:

니 앞엔

is the common colloquial pronunciation of , meaning “you” or “your.”

In everyday speech and song lyrics,  is often pronounced—and sometimes written—as . This helps distinguish it from , meaning “my,” because the two can sound very similar in modern Korean.

앞엔 is shortened from 앞에는, meaning:

“in front of you”
“right before you”

The Korean line is left slightly unfinished:

“Don’t look too far—in front of you…”

And then the English completes the attitude:

Boy, I’m popping
I got options

The natural feeling is:

“Stop searching.
I’m already right in front of you.”

But she is not asking to be chosen.

I got options means she is the one deciding whether he makes the cut.

Why look elsewhere when Hyolyn is already standing right there?
