BTS – Body to Body: A message you can’t ignore

You’ve probably already guessed that I’m not a huge fan of BTS (please don’t get mad at me), so I haven’t featured them often, and I certainly didn’t feature them on their massive comeback day. However, a few days after their release, ‘Body to Body’ became the most requested song on my Yaeum app. So, I decided to load the collection for that song, and one line immediately stuck in my head. That’s why I decided to analyze that line today.

Here, they appeal to what we should all strive for: being kinder to each other, eliminating hate, and ultimately coming closer to one another.

총 칼 키보드 다 좀 치워

인생은 짧아 증오는 비워

“Put away the guns, knives, keyboards — all of it.

Life is short, empty out the hate.”

Vocabulary & grammar breakdown

1. 총 칼 키보드 다 좀 치워

  • = “gun”
  • = “knife”
  • 키보드 = “keyboard” (metaphor for online attacks)
  • = “all”
  • = softener (makes command less harsh)
  • 치우다 → 치워 = “put away / clear away” (imperative)

→ Listing nouns + emphasizes “everything.”

2. Imperative form (치워)

verb stem + 아/어 = casual command

→ Example:

  • 앉아 = “sit down”
  • 치워 = “put it away”

3. 인생은 짧아

  • 인생 = “life”
  • –은 = topic marker
  • 짧다 → 짧아 = “is short”

→ Simple descriptive sentence.

4. 증오는 비워

  • 증오 = “hatred”
  • –는 = topic marker
  • 비우다 → 비워 = “to empty / clear out” (imperative)

→ Means “empty out the hate” or “let go of hatred.”

While I may not be their biggest fan, I genuinely admire BTS for their down-to-earth attitude and sincerity. They are indeed using their influence for the greater good.
