AKMU – Spring Colors

It’s been a few days since AKMU released their MV for the song “Spring Colors” from their stunning new album. I’ve been eagerly waiting to write about it, and now I finally have the time.

“Spring Colors” exudes a sense of softness, brightness, and vitality. The song beautifully captures the essence of spring through everyday details like crayons, flowers, small gestures, clothes on the balcony, and children’s laughter. These elements are transformed into something warm and almost childlike, creating a captivating and enchanting atmosphere.

One particularly beautiful line in the song suggests that people bloom just like flowers do, each in their own unique way, yet all sharing the same season. It’s a profound and thought-provoking idea that resonates deeply with listeners.

우린 다 비슷하게 피어났어라 / 우리는 봄 색깔

“We all bloomed in similar ways / we are the color of spring.”

Vocabulary & grammar breakdown

우린

  • shortened form of 우리는
  • means “we”
  • this contraction is very common in lyrics and everyday Korean, and it makes the line sound softer and more natural

비슷하게

  • comes from 비슷하다, meaning “to be similar”
  • -게 turns it into an adverb
  • so 비슷하게 means “similarly” or “in similar ways”
  • here, it suggests that although everyone is different, there is still something shared in how people grow and bloom

피어나다 → 피어났어라

  • 피어나다 means “to bloom”
  • it is often used for flowers, but can also be used metaphorically for emotions, youth, beauty, or people coming into themselves
  • 피어났어라 is a poetic, lyrical form that sounds more reflective and emotional than ordinary speech
  • it gives the line a sense of looking back and softly realizing: we, too, have bloomed

봄 색깔

  • means “spring”
  • 색깔 means “color”
  • together, 봄 색깔 means “the color of spring”
  • this is not just a literal color, but an image for the mood, warmth, freshness, and vitality of spring

Language & emotion tip

What makes this line so lovely is its ability to seamlessly blend people and nature. While “피어나다” typically evokes images of flowers, it here also describes us. Then, “우리는색깔” takes it a step further, not just stating that we are in spring, but that we embody the essence of spring itself. This creates a gentle and hopeful atmosphere, as if people themselves become an integral part of the season’s beauty.
