blah – Youth: Hypocrisy and misunderstandings

Korean indie singer-songwriter Blah today released his fourth EP, titled ‘Normal Life,’ which includes the single ‘Youth.’ Blah is a labelmate of Yves, and the EP also features the song ‘Falling for You’, which features her vocals. All the tracks on the EP are beautifully crafted and intimate songs that showcase Blah’s unique and individual expression.

‘Youth’ delves into universal feelings that everyone experiences in their lives, such as struggling to understand others, losing sight of one’s vision and ambition, feeling miserable and down, and even feeling betrayed by life.

Here are two lines from the song that illustrate these themes:

알고싶어 너의 그 vision

잃어버린 너의 ambition

“I want to know your vision,

your lost ambition.”

Vocabulary & grammar breakdown

1. 알고 싶어

  • 알다 = “to know”
  • –고 싶다 = “want to (do)”
  • 싶어 = informal present form

→ Standard desire pattern: verb stem + –고 싶다.

2. 너의 그 vision

  • 너의 = “your”
  • = “that” (used for emphasis or shared understanding)
  • vision = English loanword

→ Common in modern K-pop: Korean grammar + English noun.

3. 잃어버린

  • 잃어버리다 = “to lose” (often implies regret or permanence)
  • 잃어버린 = past attributive form

→ Modifies the following noun: 잃어버린 ambition = “ambition that has been lost.”

4. Ambition as object (omitted particle)

  • The object marker –을/를 is omitted (common in lyrics and casual speech).
  • Full grammatical form would be:

너의 그 vision과 잃어버린 ambition을 알고 싶어

→ Omission makes the line more rhythmic and direct.
