I have eagerly awaited this release! KiiiKiii is back with their second EP ‘Delulu Pack’ and the title track ‘404 (New Era)’! And they deliver; the song is both fun and experimental, and the lyrics match them perfectly. With ‘I do me’ and ‘Debut Song’, they presented themselves to the world last year. And with this release, they show us their wishes for the future.
The word that stands out at the beginning is ‘소원’.
‘너는 무슨 소원 빌 거야?’
‘What will you be wishing for?’
—
너는 – You
neonun
- 너 – you
- -는 – marks the preceding word as the subject of the sentence
—
무슨 – What / Which
museun
—
소원 – Wish
sowon
If you would want impeccable grammar, you would add -을 to 소원 to mark it as the object of the sentence.
—
빌거야 – will pray / will wish
bil geoya
빌다 – to wish / to pray
–ㄹ거야 – friendly form future (or intent) form.
—
In Korean (as in, e.g. Chinese), there is no clear distinction between I will and I want (and there is no equivalent to ‘I will have done’). This, IMO, is part of a different philosophy of thought, because actually, you can only express the intent to do something in the future, as you never know what might really happen.
I hope that KiiiKiii’s wishes come true and that we will get many more releases from them for a lot of years!
